Fri Feb 24: Friends of Syria Meeting to Discuss UN Peacekeeping Force for Syria

As Syrian President Bashir Assad continued to order the shelling of civilians in rebel-controlled areas of central Syria, a "Friends of Syria" meeting was held on Friday, February 24.   The group of over 90 European, Middle Eastern and American nations made plans for a UN peacekeeping force to follow an anticipated cease-fire, designated corridors for humanitarian aid to flow to Syrian civilians, and discussed possible punitive measures against President Assad should he continue to refuse their demands for a ceasfire against civilians and the defy the UN General Assembly resolution that he step down.
