Covering Ground to Ground the Drones

On June 8 Chicago-based Voices for Creative Nonviolence (VCNV), will kick off their Covering Ground to Ground the Drones protest, to bring awareness of the use of drones in warfare.

The peaceful walk will take place on Saturday, June 8 and end on June 23, near Rock Island Arsenal, Ill., where drones are made and stored. Day walkers and overnighters will cover 190-5 miles, between 12-17 miles a day, and finish in Des Moines, Iowa.

Petitions Seek to Defend Hacker Who Helped Bring Justice for Steubenville Rape Victim Against Federal Charges

In a twist of events, hacker Deric Lostutter of Kentucky, may face up to ten years in prison for hackivist activity. According to Reuters, the FBI is investigating his role in the efforts to uncover and publicize those involved in a rape that occurred in Steubenville, Ohio. Lostutter belonged to KnightSec, which was responsible for releasing the viral video of a former Big Red baseball player, Michael Nodianos, joking about the rape. The video, posted in December 2012 on rollredroll.com, is of a person wearing a Guy Fawkes mask demanding a public apology from the attackers, and threatening to reveal social security numbers and other sensitive information of those involved if they didn't apologize. Though Lostutter admitted to being the man in the video, he does not claim responsibility for hacking the website or posting the video. According to the USDA, about 80 percent of agricultural land experienced drought in 2012, conditions not seen since the 1950s. Two thousand US counties were designated as disaster areas, and 67 percent of cattle and 70-75 percent of corn and soybean production was affected. The summer months were the driest, putting 28 percent of the affected farms in exceptional (worse than severe) drought conditions. The tide turned this spring for some Midwestern areas, when torrential rains made it difficult to farmers to plant their crops.

Battle in House Over Cuts to Food Assistance in Farm Bill
